South Africa’s boxing Legend dies
The first black South African man to win the world flyweight title in 1980, died at age 67, Peter Mathebula, was known as ‘Terror’ had battled an illness.
His daughter, Thembi Mathebula told Sowetan Live, that her father was first admitted to hospital in November and later discharged. However, in January his health deteriorated and he was admitted again to the hospital and died three weeks later.
His death left the nation in shock as they to come to terms with the loss of a boxing legend.
Fans on social media posted heartfelt messages, one fan wrote on Facebook, “He gave us hope during the dark days of the apartheid system… May your soul rest in eternal peace Warrior.”
According to Sowetan Live the CEO Of SA Boxing Tsholo Lejaka said, “The legend has gone, long live the legend.”
